RUSK COUNTY - The Court has sentenced a second person who was charged in relation to a suspected drug trafficking operation in Rusk County.
On the evening of March 13, 2025, a deputy pulled over a vehicle for a traffic violation and found evidence of drug activity. This led authorities to execute a search warrant at a residence in Ladysmith, WI, where they uncovered a significant amount of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and large sums of cash. Multiple individuals were taken into custody.
Criminal charges were subsequently filed against Matthew Skamfer (65), Patricia Barrett (57), Russell Miller (63), April Wisniewski (59), Scott Shaffer (58), and Jennifer Sorensen (46).
The charges against Jennifer were not drug-related and were later dismissed. The cases against April, Jennifer, and Matthew are proceeding in Rusk County Circuit Court.
Scott Shaffer was sentenced during a court hearing in May 2026, and Patricia Barrett has now been sentenced at a hearing on June 29, 2026.
