Crash On HWY 53 Results In Death Of 79-Year-Old Wisconsin Man

BARRON COUNTY -- A single-vehicle crash that closed HWY 53 for nearly two hours on Saturday morning resulted in the death of a 79-year-old man, according to a press release from the Barron County Sheriff’s Office.

On Saturday, October 8, 2022, at 9:15 a.m., the Barron County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call about a traffic accident on Hwy 53 just south of Rice Lake.

Deputies from the Barron County Sheriff’s Department along with the Cameron Fire Department, LMC Ambulance, Life Link Helicopter, and WI State Patrol all responded to the scene.

Initial investigation shows a truck driven by John Baier, 79 of Arkansaw, WI, was traveling south on Hwy 53 when he lost control and struck the guard rail, rolled, and was ejected.

He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the Barron County Sheriff’s Department and the Barron County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Hwy 53 was closed and rerouted with the help of Cameron Fire Department for about 2 hours.
