Cumberland Man Sentenced In BP Gas Station Firearm Case

BARRON COUNTY (DrydenWire) – A Cumberland man has been sentenced in Barron County Circuit Court for an incident last year at the BP Gas Station in Cumberland involving a firearm.

According to a press release from the Cumberland Police Department, on September 11, 2024, at approximately 7:00p, officers were dispatched to the BP Gas Station for a report of an armed male outside yelling profanities.

Officers arriving in the area saw a man crouched near a parked vehicle, holding what appeared to be a rifle. After officers identified themselves and ordered him to drop the weapon, the man stood up, made a gesture toward the officers, and retreated into a residence at 1650 2nd Avenue.

Additional officers from the Turtle Lake Police Department and the Barron County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist. After several minutes, the man exited the residence unarmed and was taken into custody. He was identified as 41-year-old Brady Raasch of Cumberland.

Police say Raasch appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. Witnesses reported seeing him point the firearm at a male walking near the residence. A search warrant was obtained, and officers located a 12-gauge semi-automatic shotgun inside the home. A blood sample was also taken to determine Raasch’s blood alcohol concentration.

Raasch was transported to the Barron County Jail and later charged with multiple offenses.

Court records show that during a June 2025 hearing, Raasch pled to an amended charge of Misdemeanor Endanger Safety/Use/Dangerous Weapon. Original charges of Misdemeanor Intentionally Point a Firearm at a Person, Misdemeanor Operate Firearm While Intoxicated, and Misdemeanor Resisting or Obstructing an Officer were dismissed.

At a recent sentencing hearing, Judge Maureen Boyle ordered a one-year probation term with a stayed six-month jail sentence. Raasch will be eligible for good time and Huber work release privileges if the sentence is imposed. Probation conditions include completing all evaluations, counseling, and treatment as directed by his probation agent, abstaining from alcohol, and avoiding places where alcohol is sold except for work purposes.

Judge Boyle also ordered that the confiscated firearm be destroyed.

The Cumberland Police Department was assisted in the incident by the Barron County Sheriff’s Office and the Turtle Lake Police Department.
