BURNETT COUNTY — A lengthy drug investigation that led St. Croix Tribal Police to a Danbury residence uncovered more than 65 grams of methamphetamine, drug packaging materials, scales, ledgers, and other evidence of suspected drug activity.

Five people were located during the December 2025 search warrant, but the criminal cases stemming from the investigation have taken different turns.

The cases against three defendants, Marvin Garbow (54) of Danbury, WI, Grace Smith (29) of Sandstone, MN, and Jordan Tatum (30) of St. Paul, MN, were dismissed in February 2026, following preliminary examinations.

The charges against Roberta “Berta” Matrious (54), formerly of Sandstone, MN, are moving ahead in Burnett County Circuit Court.

The homeowner [not pictured], Margaret Johnson (63), also known as “Cookie,” recently entered a plea to a reduced misdemeanor charge.
