BURNETT COUNTY (DrydenWire) – A Burnett County theft investigation that began with a missing safe that had been buried in a pole shed has led to criminal charges against a woman after a cigarette butt found at the scene helped link her to the crime.

The safe, reported stolen in early March 2024, contained over $114,000 worth of valuables, including precious metals, rare coins, jewelry, and a firearm. The case took a turn when DNA evidence from the cigarette connected to a known offender, Heather Honeycutt, age 39, of Spooner, WI, leading to a criminal complaint and formal charges in the high-value burglary.

An arrest warrant has also been filed for Honeycutt. Anyone with information on Honeycutt’s whereabouts may contact the Burnett County Sheriff's Office at 715-349-2127.
