TOWN of St. Joseph – An 85-year-old Houlton man died Saturday from injuries he sustained in an October 19 crash in St. Joseph Township, according to a press release from the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office.

The St. Croix County Emergency Communication Center received a call at about 6:32 p.m. on Sunday, October 19, 2025, reporting a one vehicle crash on County Road E at the roundabout, near the entrance to northbound State Highway 35-64, in St. Joseph Township.
Deputies arrived on scene and located a 2006 Honda Element, which had been traveling eastbound on CTH E at the roundabout, and began to enter northbound onto STH 35-64. The driver then lost control, entered the east ditch and rolled.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as Paul D. Paulson, age 85, from Houlton WI. He was extricated from the vehicle, and transported to Regions Hospital by ambulance. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
On Saturday, October 25, 2025, Mr. Paulson died at Regions Hospital, as a result of the injuries sustained in this crash.
The St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Wisconsin State Patrol, St. Joseph Fire Department, Somerset Fire Department and Lakeview Ambulance.
This incident represents the ninth traffic fatality recorded by St. Croix County in 2025.
This crash remains under investigation.
