WASHBURN COUNTY -- A reported drunk driving incident in Washburn County escalated into a dangerous roadside encounter and alleged assault, leading to felony charges against a repeat offender with seven prior OWI convictions.
Authorities say 58-year-old John Zunker was behind the wheel on March 17, 2026, driving erratically and crossing into oncoming traffic. He allegedly assaulted a passenger in the vehicle before stopping, exiting the vehicle, and attempting to leave the scene on foot as law enforcement responded.
