Fall Grazing Conference To Be Held In Shell Lake Nov. 5, 2022

SHELL LAKE, Wis. -- The Northwest Wisconsin Graziers Network, UW River Falls Forage Project and UW-Madison Extension would like to invite you to attend this year’s fall grazing conference in Shell Lake from 8:30-3:30 on Saturday, November 5, 2022.

The conference will be held at the Shell Lake Community Center, 200 West Lake Drive next to US Hwy 63, in Washburn County. The Community Center is less than a block east of highway 63 in center of town. Registration and the trade show will start at 8:30 AM. The meal will be catered by Judy’s Country Caterer, a local rural business.

This conference will continue our strong tradition of an informative and friendly networking environment to learn about grazing fundamentals, cattle stockmanship and handling facilities, wildlife and grazing ecology and future grazing programs. The conference should be of interest to new farmers, part-time or full-time operators, low-income startups, graziers or non-graziers. Several agency and commercial exhibitors will be available to network with throughout the day.

Specific topics will include:

  • Grazing Principles and Approaches to Improve Pasture Productivity and Animal Performance – Paul Daigle
  • Stockmanship and Cattle Handling Facilities – David Kammel and Dan Coates
  • Wildlife and Grazing Ecology - Ashly Steinke and Stephen Thomforde
  • Grazing Programs Updates – Panel discussion by collaborating agencies and networks

UW-Madison Grassland 2.0, GrassWorks, St. Croix Valley Food Alliance, Red Cedar River Valley Food Alliance, UW-Madison Extension, Wisconsin Farmers Union, local producer-led watershed councils, NRCS, and other government agency programs.

Advance registration for the Conference is due by Tuesday, November 1, cost is only $20 and includes lunch, refreshments and materials. Late registration is $30.
