Family Planning Only Services Reimburses for the HPV Vaccine

Attention Wisconsin residents, there have been recent changes regarding HPV vaccination coverage by Family Planning Only Services BadgerCare+ (FPOS);  coverage has been expanded and the reimbursement rates increased.

HPV; The Human Papilloma Virus can cause genital warts, and cervical, oral, penile, and rectal cancers.  The current vaccine protects against 9 strains of the virus which are responsible for over 80% of these cancers.

The HPV vaccine is routinely recommended for; Females age 9-26 years of age, Males age 9-21 years of age and Men who have sex with men up to age 26 years.  Depending upon the age the vaccine series is started/completed at, it is a 2 or 3 shot vaccination series.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), has an Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), and they recommend that if you started the HPV vaccine series, that you complete it. You do not need to start over, just pick up where you left off.

So if you meet the age recommendations and need to start or complete the HPV series, contact your medical provider and ask if they are offering this service.

If you have any questions or concerns related to this information please contact your medical provider or the Washburn County Health Department at 715-635-4400.
