WASHBURN COUNTY (DrydenWire) - Felony charges are proceeding against two men following a dangerous traffic incident after the July 2025 Spooner Rodeo Event. A speeding pickup truck nearly struck multiple law enforcement officers who were directing the rodeo traffic. One officer sustained a soft tissue injury when the truck struck the traffic baton the officer was holding.

The driver, Michael Slyman (pictured on left), and the passenger, Nicholas Ellerbusch (pictured on right), both of Minnesota, were arrested. Charges are proceeding against both men after officers discovered marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. Blood test results also led to charges of operating while intoxicated for Slyman.
