Felony Meth Conviction Results in Prison Time for Area Man

A Hayward, WI man was sentenced to prison in Washburn County Circuit Court this week for a methamphetamine-related felony conviction.

Public record shows that Andrew Thyssen appeared in Washburn County Circuit Court to be sentenced on his charges stemming from an October 2016 incident in which Thyssen led Spooner Police officers on a high-speed chase.

Thyssen plead guilty to Possession of Methamphetamine, a Class I Felony, and Felon Possessing a Firearm, a Class G Felony, on March 9, 2017.

The Court sentenced Thyssen to 3 years of confinement in State Prison to be followed by 4 years of extended supervision by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections, Probation, and Parole. Thyssen was remanded to the custody of the Washburn County Sheriff.

Thyssen had also been charged with 1st Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, a Class F Felony, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a Misdemeanor. Those charges were dismissed but read in by the Court.

DrydenWire.com reported on this story in October 2016, when 3 men were charged; Andrew Thyssen, Clyde Miller, and Kevin Thayer. After a high-speed pursuit which reached speeds in excess of 107 mph at times, officers were able to successfully stop the vehicle. Thyssen was in possession of a firearm when officers made contact with him and then disarmed him. Officers located methamphetamine and a digital scale during this incident.

According to public record, the charges against Miller and Thayer were all dismissed by Motion of the Washburn County District Attorney's Office. Details regarding the reason for dismissal of their charges are not known to DrydenWire.com at this time.

Public record indicates that Thyssen has pending criminal charges for Failure to Report to County Jail, a Class H Felony, and Vehicle Operator Flee/Elude an Officer, a Class I Felony, in 2 Sawyer County Circuit Court cases. Those 2 cases are set for trial later in July 2017.

UPDATE: Court Hears Testimony On Spooner PD High Speed Pursuit

According to public record, testimony was heard today, October 25th, 2016, in Washburn County Circuit Court, from the Spooner Police Officer who arrested Andrew Thyssen and Clyde Miller following the October 8th high-speed pursuit by Spooner Police.

The Court found that there is probable cause for all charges filed against Andrew Thyssen: Felony First Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Thyssen is due again in Washburn County Circuit Court on November 10th, 2016. At the time of this story, Thyssen remains in the custody of the Washburn County Sheriff's Office.

Sawyer County Circuit Court has an active felony arrest warrant listed on public record for Andrew Thyssen.

Clyde Miller's felony charge of possession of methamphetamine was dismissed by the Court for lack of probable cause. His charge of possession of drug paraphernalia will move forward in criminal court with his next court date set for November 15th, 2016. Public record indicates that Miller's cash bond was amended to a signature bond, which would allow Miller to be released from jail. Mr. Miller also still has pending criminal charges in Sawyer County.

The third man with charges from this incident, Kevin Thayer, fled from the scene and was not able to be located by officers at that time. He is set to appear in Washburn County Circuit Court on October 31st, 2016 for his charges of Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Resisting or Obstructing an Officer. According to public record, Sawyer County also has an active arrest warrant for Mr. Thayer.

Third High-Speed Pursuit This Month in Spooner Results in Arrests & Felony Charges

A high-speed pursuit by Spooner Police Department resulted in the arrest of two men and the seizure of methamphetamine and a handgun.

According to public record, on October 8th, Spooner Police Officers pursued a Monte Carlo which reached speeds in excess of 107 miles per hour at times. The vehicle was observed by officers traveling off the roadway and into a field, where a Spooner Officer successfully intervened by use of a squad car and caused the vehicle to stop.

One man, Clyde Miller, of Hayward, surrendered to arrest at the front of the Monte Carlo. A second man, Andrew Thyssen, also of Hayward, was located hiding in the field. An officer successfully disarmed Thyssen of his handgun. Thyssen and Miller advised officers that the third passenger in the vehicle fled into the woods. Officers were unable to locate this individual at the time, but he was identified by Miller as Kevin Thayer, of Stone Lake. Miller also advised officers that Thyssen was driving the vehicle during the pursuit.

Publicly filed documents indicate that officers located methamphetamine and a digital scale in the vicinity of the Monte Carlo.

Charges have been filed in Washburn County Circuit Court against all three men.

Andrew Thyssen, as the driver of the vehicle, is charged with Felony First Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Thyssen is under conditions of a $2,500.00 cash bail bond and at the time of this story remains in the custody of the Washburn County Sheriff's Office. Thyssen appeared on Monday, October 17th and is due in court again on October 25th.

Thyssen also has charges pending in Sawyer County for Felony Failure to Report to Jail with a warrant for his arrest filed on September 16th.

Clyde Miller is charged in Washburn County with Felony Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Miller is subject to the conditions of a $1,000.00 cash bail bond and he also remains in the custody of the Washburn County Sheriff's Office at the time of this story. Miller appeared as well on Monday October 17th and is also due back in court in Washburn County on October 25th.

Miller also has pending charges in Sawyer County, three separate cases with charges of Misdemeanor Resisting, Operating with a Revoked License, and Misdemeanor Bail Jumping.

Charges have been filed against Kevin Thayer for Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Resisting or Obstructing an Officer. He is scheduled to appear in Washburn County on October 31st.

Public record also shows that an arrest warrant was issued in Sawyer County Circuit Court on September 8th for Kevin Thayer for failure to appear in court on a charge of Operating with a Revoked license.
