Final Washburn County Housing Study Results To Be Unveiled At Public Presentation In Spooner

WASHBURN COUNTY — After months of data collection, community engagement, and analysis, Washburn County's comprehensive Housing Study is complete. The Washburn County Economic Development Corporation (WCEDC), in partnership with Community and Economic Development Associates (CEDA), invites residents, local leaders, and community stakeholders to attend a public presentation of the study's results and recommendations on Monday, August 18th, 2025 at 5:30 PM at the Spooner Fire Hall.

The study provides a clear picture of current housing conditions across Washburn County and identifies opportunities to better meet the needs of local residents, now and into the future. With a mix of data analysis, stakeholder interviews, and public input, the report highlights growing demand for housing that is affordable, accessible, and aligned with workforce needs.

Why it matters: This study is more than a report, it's a tool to support decision-making, guide future investments, and strengthen the quality of life for the more than 16,000 year-round residents who call Washburn County home.

"As the Washburn County EDC looked at how best we could help our community, we determined our biggest need was housing for our local workforce and residents.

Contracting with CEDA has helped to prove out the need to investors and developers.

The results reflect what we have all been feeling in recent years, we are excited to see the investment in our county this information provides."- Jill Dunlavy, WCEDC President

Findings include:

  • Detailed recommendations
  • Housing stock evaluation
  • Community survey results
  • Examples and ideas for addressing housing barriers

The final presentation will walk through these findings and outline actionable next steps. Attendees will have the chance to ask questions and learn how the study can support grant applications, development partnerships, and policy updates.

"We're proud to have partnered with the Washburn County EDC on this important project," said Courtney Bergey Swanson, Chief Mission Officer at CEDA. "The findings provide a strong foundation to guide future decisions and support efforts to meet current and emerging housing needs. We're committed to working alongside the Washburn County EDC and partners to turn this plan into meaningful action."
