Five Area Dancers to Perform at Outback Bowl on New Year’s Day

WASHBURN COUNTY -- Five students at Proficient Dance Studio of Spooner will perform on New Year’s Day 2019 during halftime at the Outback Bowl Football game at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay, FL.

The five will join up to 500 boys and girls from dance studios across the country to form a large dance team for the halftime show.

The girls receive dance instruction at Proficient Dance Studio with owner/instructor Cyndi Dennis. They were invited to perform based on their audition videos which Nelson submitted. 

Through their dance studio, the girls have gained competitive dance experience at events in Maple, Green Bay and Madison, among others venues. 

The five dancers range in age from 9 to 14. They are:

  • Bailey Okonek: fourth-grader at Shell Lake Elementary School.
  • Clara Ruport: fourth-grader at Spooner Elementary School.
  • Kyndra Clark: fifth-grader at Spooner Middle School
  • Allison Alexander: sixth-grader at Northwood School in Minong.
  • Kailee Corlett: ninth-grader at Northwood School in Minong.

Dennis said on Dec. 1, the girls will receive a video with the choreography they will need learn for the halftime show. They will practice the dances on their own and also under her instruction at her dance studio located in the former Spooner Hospital. About 45 kids ranging in age from pre-school to high school are dance students there.

The five girls will travel with one or more family members and their assistant dance instructor Cassandra Thompson. They will leave for a week-long trip at the end of December and will visit Disney World, Busch Gardens, Clearwater Beach, and enjoy a New Year’s cruise.
