Today on “Focus on the Faculty” we are featuring a #ShellLakeStrong MS/HS Social Studies teacher, Heidi Vanderloop! Heidi also advises the Student Council and is a coach for the 7th grade Volleyball team.
Heidi’s hometown is Menomonie, Wi. She attended UW-River Falls and Marquette University after High School. This is her second-year teaching in the Shell Lake School District and what she loves most about it is her students!
Her family consists of:
- Dad - Tom (Taught at CVTC for 30+ years)
- Mom - Linda (Worked at UW-Stout at the Child and Family Study Center)
- 4 Sisters - Molly, Hanna (twin), Ellie and Greta
- 1 Brother in Law - Trent (married to Ellie)
- Significant Other - Jay
- 3 fur-babies! A husky, Kyla, and two cats, Houdini and Gatsby
Heidi has 2 favorite movies, “Forrest Gump” and “The Sandlot!” Currently her favorite author is Ruta Sepetys but overall she likes F. Scott Fitzgerald, John Steinbeck, Upton Sinclair and John Green.
Heidi has a lot of hobbies and stays very active all year round. She enjoys swimming, hiking, camping, kayaking, knitting, learning, watching the Green Bay Packers and spending time with family and friends. She also manages an outdoor waterpark in the summer and volunteers with 4-H.
As a child, she wanted to be a meteorologist when she grew up. Heidi had many great teachers growing up that she remembers well.
A funny story about one of her classes was that her students thought they should teach a class on common sense and that the objective should be, "you don't have to be smart, just don't be dumb.”
Thank you, Heidi for all you do!
