Former Grantsburg Town Clerk Enters Plea In Forgery Case

BURNETT COUNTY -- A former Grantsburg Town Clerk and Treasurer has entered a plea and been sentenced in a case charging her with felony forgery.

DrydenWire.com previously reported on August 29, 2019 that Lynn Harmon, former Town Clerk for Grantsburg, WI, was facing a charge of Class H Felony Uttering a Forgery following an investigation into checks with forged signatures.

A criminal complaint filed against Harmon stated that during a 6-month period of time while Harmon was employed as the Grantsburg Town Clerk and Treasurer, discrepancies were noticed in the bank statements, and checks with unauthorized signatures were issued to Harmon.

Harmon told investigators that she signed the checks because she was “hurting so bad” and that she used the money for groceries.

At a hearing on September 23, 2019, the Court accepted a plea from Harmon to a reduced charge of Misdemeanor Theft.

Harmon was ordered to complete 40 hours of community service, participate in the Apology Letter Coaching program through Restorative Justice and pay nearly $400 in restitution which Harmon paid prior to the hearing, according to online circuit court records.
