POLK COUNTY -- Former Polk County, Wisconsin Sheriff Craig A. Benware, 75 of Clayton, died on Monday, April 24, 2023, at his home.
Current Polk County Sheriff Brent Waak told DrydenWire that Sheriff Craig Benware served as the Polk County Sheriff from 1989 to 1996. Sheriff Benware was appointed by Governor Tommy Thompson and served until the end of his 3rd term in 1996.
“Sheriff Benware’s agency motto was ‘Attitude Is Everything,’ and he lived his life that way,” said Sheriff Waak.
After his Law Enforcement career, Craig enjoyed spending time on Madeline Island.
There will be a Celebration of Life at 2p on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at Crosses in the Woods Chapel in Clayton, WI with a visitation from 11a to 2p.
