Due to 'Very High' Fire Danger, Spooner Police Reminds Community of Campfire Ordinance

SPOONER, Wis. -- Due to the VERY HIGH fire danger, we have been asked to remind Spooner residents about the campfire ordinance.

Under Ordinance 26-43(5) it states:

Recreational fires that are contained in a pit or an approved container are allowed. These fires are defined as small campfires not to be closer than 30 feet from any building structure, shed, garage, fence or any other combustible material. The location shall be no closer than 20 feet from any property line. The distance may be reduced for a special event with prior approval from the fire chief or chief of police. Weather conditions could ban such fires. No permit is required.

Given the dry and windy conditions, we ask that residents use good judgment when having a campfire, and closely monitor it.

If you have questions about this ordinance or any others, please contact the Spooner Police Department at 715-635-3527.
