On July 24, 2017 at approximately 1:46 P.M., the Ashland County Communications Center received a 911 telephone call reporting a motorcycle accident on County Highway GG approximately two miles south of Mellen; the caller reported that one male was injured and not responsive. Deputies of the Ashland County Sheriff's Offices, a Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper, the Mellen Ambulance, and Mellen Fire and Rescue responded to the scene.
Preliminary investigations determined that Jay Ronald Young, 72, of Gordon, WI, was traveling northbound on County Highway GG when his motorcycle left the roadway, crossed the graveled shoulder and crashed down an embankment. Young was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Ashland County Sheriff's Office and the Ashland County Coroner's Office.
