Governor Evers Approves Resurfacing Project On WIS 70 In Washburn County

WASHBURN COUNTY -- To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $4.82 million contract with prime contractor Monarch Paving Co. of Amery for a resurfacing project on WIS 70 from US 53 to the south junction of County M east of Spooner. Construction is scheduled to start Monday, April 25.

This segment of WIS 70 is showing signs of deterioration, and the culverts underneath the roadway have reached the end of their useful lives. To address these, WisDOT will:

  • Recycle a portion of the existing pavement and resurface the road.
  • Replace culverts.
    • Replace the culvert at Crystal Brook with a bridge.
  • Place new pavement markings.

During road resurfacing and replacement of all but one culvert, motorists will encounter single-lane closures controlled by flagging operations.

During the replacement of the culvert at Crystal Brook, WIS 70 will be closed from roughly early July to early September, and traffic will be detoured via US 53, County B, County M and WIS 70.

Construction is scheduled for completion in late September.
