Governor Evers Approves Third US 63 Project in Barron County

BARRON COUNTY — To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed an $8.66 million contract with prime contractor Monarch Paving Co. of Amery for a resurfacing project on US 63 from US 8 East in Turtle Lake to WIS 48 West in Cumberland.

Construction is scheduled to start Monday, July 20.

This segment of US 63 is showing signs of deterioration. To address this and other issues, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is proposing:

  • Milling 2.25 inches of asphalt from the roadway surface and paving 3.25 inches of hot-mix asphalt
  • Cleaning, lining or replacing culverts
  • Replacing guardrail
  • Replacing curb and gutter at various locations
  • Installing new pavement markings
  • Completing the following improvements to increase safety:
    • Installing shoulder rumble strips
    • Placing a high-friction surface treatment on two curves
    • Widening paved shoulders from 3 feet to 5 feet

During construction, US 63 will remain open, but motorists will encounter single-lane closures controlled by flagging operations and side road closures.

Construction is scheduled for completion in mid-November.
