RUSK COUNTY, WI -- A March 2025 routine traffic stop in Rusk County, that led to the discovery of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, and ultimately uncovered a suspected drug trafficking operation, has resulted in a drug-related conviction for a Ladysmith, WI, man.

On the evening of March 13, 2025, a deputy pulled over a vehicle for a traffic violation and found evidence of drug activity. This led authorities to execute a search warrant at a residence in Ladysmith, where they uncovered a significant amount of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and large sums of cash. Multiple individuals were taken into custody.
Criminal charges were subsequently filed against Matthew Skamfer (65), Patricia Barrett (57), Russell Miller (63), April Wisniewski (59), Scott Shaffer (58), and Jennifer Sorensen (46).
The charges against Jennifer were not drug-related and were later dismissed.
Scott Shaffer was sentenced during a court hearing on May 12, 2026, for a charge of maintaining a drug trafficking place.
