SAWYER COUNTY -- The Court has sentenced a Hayward, WI man on his conviction of fleeing law enforcement following a high-speed pursuit that occurred in Sawyer County in November 2020.
DrydenWire published a press release from the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office which stated that on November 7, 2020, a suspect vehicle containing a subject suspected of being involved in a theft in Ashland, WI, fled from law enforcement. The pursuit ended after the suspect vehicle collided with another vehicle and the suspect then fled on foot. National Forest Law Enforcement K9 located the suspect a short time later.
The suspect was identified as Eriesse Whitehead, of Hayward, WI. Online circuit court records show that Whitehead was charged with Class I Felony Vehicle Operator Flee/Elude Officer and Misdemeanor Resisting or Obstructing. Whitehead was placed on a $1,000 cash bond following the incident.
At a hearing on January 19, 2021, the Court accepted Whitehead’s plea of Guilty to his charge of Class I Felony Vehicle Operator Flee/Elude Officer. His remaining charge was dismissed and read in.
The Court heard statements from Whitehead’s defense counsel and the Sawyer County District Attorney, requesting the Court to follow a joint sentencing agreement. Online records show that the Court accepted the agreement and ordered a sentence of 74 days local jail with credit for time served.
Whitehead was also ordered to pay fines and costs in excess of $500.
