SAWYER COUNTY -- An 18-year-old from Hayward, WI, is facing felony charges after authorities say he brought a firearm onto school property and into a principal’s office.
According to a criminal complaint, Officers with the Hayward Police Department responded on March 27, 2026, to a report of a male carrying a gun case near the Hayward High School and Middle School.
The individual, identified as Ricky Lee Cox, was located walking between the buildings with a long gun case. The police investigation revealed Cox was captured on camera entering the Principal’s office with the case, which held an AR-style shotgun.
Cox was already prohibited from having firearms under an active domestic abuse injunction.
