Christine Couture, of Hayward, WI, has been charged in Washburn County Circuit Court with Felony Attempting to Flee an Officer and Misdemeanor Resisting an Officer.
According to public record, on October 16th, 2016, a Washburn County Sheriff's Deputy attempted a traffic stop on a red Chevrolet Blazer after confirming that the registered owner had a revoked driver's license. After the Deputy activated the emergency lights on the squad car, the Blazer did not stop, but instead ran through a stop sign and accelerated to speeds of 76 miles per hour at times.
The Blazer did later slow and then stop; and the Washburn County Sheriff's Deputy saw the driver's door open and a female exit the Blazer and run into a wooded area. The driver failed to put the Blazer into park before exiting it, and the Blazer continued to roll down the County Highway until the Deputy caught up to it and was able to enter it and put it into park.
The Deputy then pursued the woman on foot, assisted by Sawyer County Sheriff's Deputies. After running for about ¼ of a mile, the woman dropped to her knees and ultimately complied with deputies' commands and was then safely arrested.
At this point the woman verbally identified herself as Christine Couture, advising deputies that she fled from them because she was aware of an active warrant for her arrest.
Public record also shows that Couture has charges of Felony Possession of Methamphetamine and Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia pending in Sawyer County Circuit Court.
Ms. Couture also has been cited in Washburn County Circuit Court with Reckless Driving-Endangering Safety, Unsafe Lane Deviation, Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign, Operating without a Valid Driver's License, Speeding, and Alighting from a Moving Vehicle.
Couture appeared in Washburn County Circuit Court today, October 24th, 2016 and is due back in Court on October 31st. Ms. Couture is under conditions of a $1,000 cash bail bond for her Washburn County charges and at the time of this story remains in the custody of the Washburn County Sheriff's Office.
