WASHBURN COUNTY -- Mental health challenges have been on the rise nationally. According to the Centers for Disease and Prevention (CDC) over 50% of Americans will be diagnosed with a mental health issue in their lifetime. There has been an alarming 37% increase in suicide since 1999 to present day, this is according to the CDC.
On the international stage, the World Health Organization (WHO) reports a 13% increase in reported mental health disorders over the last 10 years. Healthy Washco Stakeholder coalition will be hosting a mental wellness walk to raise awareness, to demonstrate the impact mental health has on rural communities, the need for mental health resources and/or to commemorate a loved one lost to suicide.
No set distance is established, walk as little or as much as you would like. We will ask you to track your distance during the walk.
There is no registration cost. Event shirts are available to commemorate the walk. They can be purchased in person or on the registration page (https://biturl.top/zQz26v), while supplies last. All proceeds of shirt sales cover production costs and any additional funds will support The Oak youth center.
A guiding principle of Healthy WashCo is that our programs build competence and connection, the ingredients of resilience, and the pathway out of our growing mental health epidemic. We ask that you join us on the 11th to be a part of positive change in our community.
