High School Hockey Is Back In Spooner

SPOONER, WI -- The Northwest Icemen is our area's boys high school hockey team. This co-op is formed by Barron, Chetek-Weyerhaeuser, Cameron, Cumberland, Shell Lake and Spooner. There are three rinks that the Icemen call home - Barron, Cumberland and Spooner.

During the off season the Icemen had captain's practices at the Spooner Civic Center and the skaters and volunteers at the Spooner Civic Center have been working on converting the former pool locker rooms to the Icemen locker rooms.

The Icemen started off their year with a tough loss to DC Everest on November 19th and they are looking for a big win this week in Spooner.

December is full of Icemen home games at The Spooner Civic Center!

  • December 2nd Icemen vs. Chequamengon
  • December 9th Icemen vs. Ashland
  • December 16th Icemen vs. Hayward

The Spooner Civic Center will open at 5pm and warm ups will start at 5:30pm. The cost is $5 per adult and $3 per student.

The Icemen head coach is Curtis Cutsforth. Long time assistant coach, Guy Evans is from Spooner and this year Spooner's Nick Freeman has also joined the coaching team.
