High-Speed Chase In Stolen Vehicle Lands Four In Jail; Felony Charges Filed

POLK COUNTY — Felony charges filed against 4 people following a high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle that went through an active work zone in Polk County.

On July 24, 2019, Polk County Dispatch received a report from OnStar that a stolen Chevrolet Silverado was in Polk County. Law enforcement located the vehicle through the use of GPS and after confirming the stolen status of the vehicle, squad car lights were activated to initiate a traffic stop, according to a probable cause report from Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

The vehicle did not stop in response to the squad car lights, but instead accelerated to speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour, proceeding through a narrow work zone, driving around members of a storm damage clean-up work crew and their vehicles.

OnStar was able to cut power to the vehicle after about 4 miles of travel, and the vehicle came to a stop, however, the people inside the vehicle did not immediately cooperate with officer directions to exit the vehicle.

Officers used a PA system and ultimately used the vehicle’s satellite phone system to communicate with the occupants of the vehicle. After one hour, the occupants finally exited the vehicle, according to the probable cause report.

The four occupants were identified as Austin Patchen (of Fridley, MN), Kyla Marchaud (of Anoka, MN), Cody Kraimer (of Columbia Heights, MN), and Suji Godo (of Minneapolis, MN).

All four were placed under arrest. During a check of the vehicle, officers located a meth pipe, a marijuana pipe; both of which contained residue that tested postive for meth and for marijuana respectively.

The four occupants were transported to the Polk County Jail; the Polk County Sheriff’s Office probable cause statement goes on to say that all four declined to provide any information as to how they came to be inside the stolen vehicle, and all four stated they were not the driver and did not know who the driver was.

All four have been charged with Class G Felony 2nd Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, Class H Felony Take and Drive Vehicle Without Consent, Class I Felony Vehicle Operator Flee/Elude Officer, Class I Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, Misdemeanor Possess Drug Paraphernalia, and Misdemeanor Resist or Obstruct an Officer, according to online circuit court records.

L/R: Cody Kraimer, Austin Patchen

The charges against Cody Kraimer and Austin Patchen were filed with penalty enhancers of Repeat Offender and Party to a Crime. Online circuit court records show that both Kraimer and Patchen have been placed on a $12,500 cash bail bond.

L/R: Kyla Marchaud, Suji Godo

The charges against Kyla Marchaud and Suji Godo were filed with the penalty enhancer of Party to a Crime. According to online circuit court records, Marchaud has been placed on a $10,000 cash bail bond and Godo has been put on a $12,000 cash bail bond.

Pursuant to the direction of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in Supreme Court Rule 20:3.6, Trial Publicly, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
