Human Bones Found in Rusk County Woods Identified as Missing Ladysmith Man

RUSK COUNTY, WI — Human remains discovered earlier this month in a wooded area of the Blue Hills have been positively identified as Seth Miller, 36, of Ladysmith, according to new information released by the Rusk County Sheriff’s Office.

DrydenWire previously reported that suspected human bones were recovered on May 8, 2026, after a forester marking trees in the area alerted authorities to the discovery. At the time, law enforcement indicated investigators were working with the Rusk County Medical Examiner’s Office and a forensic anthropologist to determine the identity of the remains.

According to an updated press release issued Wednesday, May 20, 2026, the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigations confirmed through a forensic pathologist that the remains belonged to Miller, who had been reported missing in Rusk County on July 8, 2025.

The investigation remains ongoing involving the Rusk County Sheriff’s Office, Rusk County Medical Examiner, and Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigations.
