BURNETT COUNTY -- Jeanne Marie Taylor, 59, of rural Webster has announced her candidacy as an independent for Burnett County Register of Deeds. Jeanne said, “It seems like my training and experience have been pointing me to this position.”

After graduation from high school, Jeanne worked with family as part owner/operator of a successful carpet installation and retail business for about 10 years. She then attended Rasmussen Business College earning a diploma as a Legal Secretarial Specialist, after which she moved to Burnett County finding employment first as an executive secretary with Firstar Bank in Grantsburg and then with Burnett County working in both Social Services and the Child Support Agency.

In 1997 she decided to continue her education and attended WITC earning an Associate’s Degree in Court Reporting. After graduating, Jeanne returned to Burnett County and worked as a court reporter in the freelance field, as a substitute for the 10th Judicial District and held a 20% job share in the Burnett County Circuit Court.

In 2007 Jeanne developed an interest in real estate and obtained licenses as both an agent and a broker. She sold real estate in the area for about 3 years as her court reporting career was winding down. During that time and while attending WITC, Jeanne also worked as a legal secretary for Benson Law Office in Siren. In 2010 following the real estate market crash, Jeanne returned to work as a legal secretary working full time with Grindell Law Office in Frederic. Her years working as a legal secretary continued to peak her interest in real estate, this time from a legal standpoint.

When Grindell Law Office was nearing closure, Jeanne moved to another area of real estate: title insurance. She joined Knight Barry Title Group in January of 2016 helping them open an office in Spooner, Wisconsin. She started her title career as a closing agent but quickly moved to the position of title examiner and as such spends her days searching and examining title documents maintained by Registers of Deeds in ten counties in Northwest Wisconsin. Much of this work can be done online, but there are times a project requires visiting a Register of Deeds’ office to comb through the older records. In this position she has become familiar with not only the offices but also the process by which they catalog and store records and many of the software programs used by the different counties. “Working as a Register of Deeds seems to be a normal progression in my career, and I would be happy to once again come back to Burnett County to serve the community where I live.”

Jeanne makes her home in the Town of Sand Lake with her husband of 25 years, Donald Taylor.
