SAWYER COUNTY — Sawyer County Judge John Yackel has ordered a cash bond of $250,000 for a Hayward, WI man who is facing charges of repeated sexual assault of two children.
A criminal complaint has been filed in Sawyer County Circuit Court against Cameron Leach, of Hayward, WI charging him with repeated sexual assault of two child victims over a period of time from 2009 through 2016. The children would have been age 7 in 2009.
Forensic interviews were conducted with the two alleged victims who stated that on multiple occasions from 2009 through 2016 Leach forcibly engaged in sexual contact with the two, at times causing one victim to see the contact with the other.
Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office interviewed Leach on November 20, 2019, and he initially denied the allegations.
Later in the interview, Leach stated that he “accidentally” had sexual contact with both of the children, according to the criminal complaint. Leach went on to state that the two children initiated the sexual contact and that it was their fault that it occurred.
Leach was taken into custody, and at a hearing on November 22, 2019, Judge Yackel set a cash bail bond of $250,000 for Leach with conditions prohibiting him from having contact with any juveniles.
On November 27, 2019, a criminal complaint charging two counts of Class B Felony Repeated Sexual Assault of a Child was filed against Leach. If convicted as charged, Leach could face a maximum sentence of 120 years imprisonment.
Leach appeared at a hearing on December 2, 2019, while in custody and is scheduled to appear again later in December 2019.
