SAWYER COUNTY (DrydenWire) - A Sawyer County man’s attempt to avoid a traffic stop spiraled into a chaotic scene involving a foot chase, taser use, and threats at the jail, ending with multiple felony charges and a prison sentence.

According to the Lac Courte Oreilles Tribal Police Department, 44-year-old Marc Lopit was found behind the wheel of a running vehicle in Sawyer County on June 21, 2025. When confronted, Lopit allegedly refused sobriety tests, released his dog at officers multiple times, fled into the woods, and later caused a bloody disturbance while being booked into jail.

Court records show Lopit, a repeat OWI offender, was recently sentenced after pleading no contest to two charges of operating while intoxicated and bail jumping.
