Jury Finds Sarona Man Guilty On Charges Of Sexual Assault & Conspiracy To Commit Homicide

WASHBURN COUNTY -- A jury has found Russell Wilson, of Sarona, WI, guilty on charges including sexual assault and conspiracy to commit homicide that were filed against him in Washburn County circuit court.

DrydenWire.com previously reported in January 202,  that a jury trial had been scheduled for Wilson regarding charges including Repeated Sexual Assault of Same Child and Conspiracy to Commit 1st Degree Intentional Homicide filed against him in 2 Washburn County circuit court cases.

Wilson had previously plead guilty and been sentenced to a prison term on the charges of Repeated Sexual Assault of Same Child. Wilson appealed his conviction and it was subsequently overturned by the Court of Appeals. Wilson was returned to Washburn County jail where he remained in custody on a $50,000 cash bond awaiting future hearings on his charges of Class C Felony Repeated Sexual Assault of Same Child; and Class G Felony 3rd Degree Sexual Assault.

Additionally, Wilson was charged with conspiring to hire a hitman to kill the victim of the sexual assault, the mother of the victim, and the mother's boyfriend, according to a criminal complaint filed in Washburn County Circuit Court that charged Wilson with Class A Felony Conspiracy to Commit 1st Degree Intentional Homicide; and Class A Solicitation of 1st Degree Intentional Homicide.

The two court cases were joined for purposes of the jury trial, which began on March 22, 2021. Jurors heard testimony from numerous witnesses. Just after 1:30p on March 24, 2021, the Jurors began their deliberations, according to online circuit court records.

Shortly before 3:00p, the Jury returned with a verdict of Guilty on all four charges filed against Wilson. The Court revoked Wilson’s bail. Wilson will be sentenced at a future court hearing.
