POLK COUNTY (DrydenWire) - An 8-day jury trial in Polk County Circuit Court has resulted in a conviction of homicide for Mary Josephine Bailey. Charges were filed against Bailey after she was arrested in Arizona following a breakthrough in the decades-long investigation. After hearing testimony from many witnesses during the trial that began on May 20, 2024, and seeing numerous exhibits, the jury deliberated for less than 3 hours before returning with a guilty verdict. She remains in custody, on a $300,000 cash bond, awaiting her sentencing hearing in July.
