A Spooner area man is scheduled to have a Jury Trial in March 2018 regarding his methamphetamine charges stemming from a drug bust in August of 2016.

The Washburn County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant on August 9, 2016, at a residence on Green Valley Road with assistance from the Burnett County Sheriff's Department.

Jacob Hanson was charged with Class I Felony Possession of Methamphetamine and Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia following the search warrant.

Jason Hanson (Jacob's brother) and Brian Hanson (Jacob's father) were also living at the residence and criminal charges were also filed against both of them in Washburn County Circuit Court as a result of the search warrant.

The criminal complaint filed against Jacob Hanson states that during the execution of the search warrant, officers located 13 marijuana plants growing on the property, methamphetamine, and dozens of items of drug paraphernalia throughout the residence including pipes for smoking methamphetamine and marijuana, syringes, and a bong.

A child who was 10-months old at the time of the incident was also living at the residence, and according to the criminal complaint, most of the items of contraband which were located by officers were found either on the floor or on tables or dressers which could have been accessed by the child.

An interview was conducted with Jacob Hanson at the time of the search warrant and according to the criminal complaint, Jacob stated that the items of drug paraphernalia which were found in one of the bedrooms belonged to him, as well as the methamphetamine that was found in that room. Jacob also allegedly told the officer that he had been regularly using methamphetamine.

The criminal complaint goes on to state that Jacob allegedly told officers that the marijuana plants found on the property belonged to Jason and that Brian knew about the activities at the residence and also used marijuana and methamphetamine.

Online circuit court records indicate that a jury trial for Jacob's charges was scheduled for October 4, 2017, however, that was later changed to a Motion Hearing and when Jacob appeared on October 4, he entered a plea of no contest to his charge of Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

The Court accepted Jacob's plea to the Misdemeanor charge, and his Felony charge for Possession of Methamphetamine has been set for Jury Trial in March 2018.

Brian Hanson was originally charged with Maintaining a Drug Trafficking place following the search warrant. Online circuit court records indicate that on March 6, 2017, Brian entered a plea of no contest to a reduced charge of Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana. The Court ordered 1 year of probation for Brian with 5 days of conditional jail time.

A charge of Manufacture/Deliver Marijuana stemming from the search warrant was filed against Jason Hanson. According to online circuit court records, Jason entered a plea of Guilty on October 4, 2016, to a reduced charge of Class I Felony Possession of Marijuana. On November 28, 2016, the Court ordered an imposed and stayed (meaning that the sentence is delayed until or unless the individual's probation would be revoked, then it would be immediately imposed) sentence of 3 years of confinement in state prison followed by 3 years of extended supervision. The Court imposed a sentence of 3 years of probation for Jason.

Pursuant to the direction of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in Supreme Court Rule 20:3.6, Trial Publicly, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
