MINONG, WI — A juvenile is dead and a driver remains in critical condition following a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of State Highway 77 and U.S. Highway 53, according to a press release from the Minong Police Department.

On March 17th, 2026, at approximately 11:49am Officers of the Minong Police Department were requested to respond to a report of a two-vehicle accident, at the intersection of State Hwy 77 and US Hwy 53.
Minong Police Department was assisted on scene by the Washburn County Sheriff's Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, Minong Fire Department, Minong Ambulance, and Gordon Ambulance.
Initial investigations indicate that a 2019 Subaru Ascent was traveling northbound on US Hwy 53 and turning West onto State Hwy 77. As the Subaru crossed the southbound lane of travel from the median it was struck in the passenger side by semi-truck traveling south on Hwy 53. The indication is that the Subaru failed to yield the right of way to the Semi which was operating legally by all accounts.
There were two occupants inside the Subaru that required extrication from fire department personnel. Both driver and passenger were transported by ground EMS to Air Ambulances with critical injuries. The juvenile passenger was pronounced deceased at the landing zone.
The driver was flown to St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth, MN and remains in critical condition at the time of last update. The driver of the semi declined EMS treatment on scene.
The identities of the parties involved are not being released by MPD at this time.
This crash remains under investigation by the Minong Police Department, WI State Patrol, and the Washburn County Corners Office.
