RUSK COUNTY — A Ladysmith, Wisconsin, Elementary School teacher has been arrested after admitting to allegations of inappropriate contact with a 15-year-old student, according to a press release from the Ladysmith Police Department.

On December 1, 2025, the Ladysmith Police Department received a complaint from Ladysmith School District Administration regarding alleged inappropriate contact involving a 2nd grade teacher and a high school student within the district. The police department was informed by the school district that the teacher was immediately placed on leave pending investigation.
Ladysmith Police interviewed the 15-year-old female student who informed police that during the summer of 2025 she and the teacher began having contact via social media. The student stated on one occasion the teacher sent her an explicit image of herself to the student.
On December 4, 2025, the Ladysmith Police Department interviewed the teacher, identified as Kayla A. Vavra, age 28 of Ladysmith. During the Interview, Vavra admitted to the allegations made by the female student, including sending of the explicit image.
Vavra was subsequently arrested and taken to the Rusk County Jail where she was booked on charges of Exposing a Child to Harmful Material and Intimidation of a victim.
The Ladysmith Police Department, as well as the Ladysmith School District Administration continue to work together to ensure the safety of the students and staff.
