WASHBURN COUNTY — Leadership Washburn County (LWC) is now accepting applications for its class of 2026–2027, a leadership development program designed to build current and future leaders while expanding participants’ understanding of the issues and opportunities shaping Washburn County.
Leadership Washburn County is a practical, hands-on experience that helps participants strengthen communication skills, grow confidence leading others, and build relationships with a network of community leaders. Monthly sessions give participants a big-picture view of how Washburn County works and what’s shaping the region.
Topics include local government and public services, education, healthcare, public safety, economic development and workforce, natural resources and tourism, and the nonprofits and community organizations that support quality of life. Along the way, participants also build practical leadership skills through discussion, hands-on learning, and connections with local leaders.
Value for Employers
LWC is a strong professional development investment for local employers. Businesses and organizations that sponsor an employee often see benefits that carry back to the workplace, including stronger leadership skills, improved teamwork and communication, and employees who better understand the community they serve. The program also helps participants build cross-industry relationships that can lead to stronger collaboration across Washburn County.
