Outagamie County executive and former Democratic nominee for Lieutenant Governor and Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District, Tom Nelson, will be Ben Dryden’s guest on Thursday morning on DrydenWire Live via Facebook.

Nelson, a candidate hoping to take Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson’s seat in the U.S. Senate, will be live at approximately 8:30a on DrydenWire’s Facebook page. A recording will be published on DrydenWire.com and DrydenWire’s YouTube Channel later in the day.

Bio

Tom Nelson is currently serving his third term as the Outagamie County executive, one of Wisconsin’s larger counties (181,000) and crucial bellwether county – a must- win in any statewide race. He oversees a variety of departments that provide crucial public services from public health to infrastructure development. He is particularly proud of the county’s award-winning long-term care facility, its model criminal justice treatment services program and its international airport (ATW), one of the fastest growing airports in the nation. Before he was County Executive, Tom served three terms in the State Assembly (2005-2011) including one term as Majority Leader, the youngest in state history.

Tom takes a special interest in economic development and labor issues, in particular the pulp and paper industry. Tom played a role in helping re-start a shuttered paper mill in 2017, which will be the subject of his forthcoming book (March 2021).

Tom has an extensive network of state and national Democratic officials and strong ties with state and national labor unions. He was the Democratic nominee for Lieutenant Governor (2010) and Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District (2016). Tom holds a B.A. in Political Science from Carleton College (Northfield, Minnesota) and an M.P.A. from the Princeton School for International and Public Affairs (f.k.a. Woodrow Wilson School).

In his free time, he enjoys coaching his daughter’s basketball team (pre-COVID), writing, baking pizzas from scratch, reading all things history, and spending time with his family, wife Maria, children Mary and George, and Lucy, a Yorkshire Terrier. The Nelsons reside in Appleton.
