“Masks are fine, but we don’t need statewide mandates telling us what to do. Many people are wearing masks already. Municipalities have been making the decisions themselves on what best fits their regions. I still do not support mandating mask wearing statewide.

“I certainly think the way that the governor has written this order may have opened him up to legal challenges. I’m also gauging the interest of my caucus when it comes to voting down the order – the Legislature should be reconvening to look at this.
“Good luck enforcing this without local support. Municipalities and counties are going to be tasked with deciding how to best handle this issue. Certainly, the last thing our police need to be doing right now is serving as part of the mask patrol."
Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau) represents the 13th Senate District, which covers portions of Dodge, Jefferson, Waukesha, Washington, Dane, and Columbia counties.
