Man Arrested Following Shooting Incident In Burnett County

BURNETT COUNTY - A 60-year-old man has been arrested following an incident involving a firearm, according to a press release from the Burnett County Sheriff’s Office.

On Friday, September 10, 2021, the Burnett County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of Grantsburg Police Department, responded to 25354 Gile Rd., Town of West Marshland, Grantsburg, WI, for a report that Aaron Simmons was headed there with a rifle.

Officer’s arrived and spoke with the homeowner whom advised that there had been an altercation between Aaron Simmons (60) and another male victim (identity withheld). The homeowner stated that he heard a gunshot and then additional gunshots. Both Simmons and the victim left his residence, southbound, in separate vehicles.

Officer’s later located Simmons’ vehicle, partially in the ditch on Gile Rd. Simmons had a head injury and was removed from the scene via North Ambulance.

Officer’s spoke with the victim whom relayed that he and Simmons were arguing over the theft of some money and some repair work on a firearm. Simmons became angry and started swinging a roofing shovel at the victim. The victim hit Simmons with an aluminum bar in the head. Simmons left for a short while and then returned, this time with a rifle. Simmons shot at the victim multiple times before the gun jammed. The victim then left.

Officer’s later executed a search warrant at Simmons’ residence seizing numerous firearms, ammunition and drug paraphernalia.

Simmons has been arrested and is being held in custody for bond.
