Press Release
On July 21, 2022, the Burnett County Sheriff’s Office responded to a complaint, in Meenon Township, of a man brandishing a handgun during a disagreement and pointing it at multiple individuals, including a 9-year-old child. The suspect(s) left prior to law enforcement’s arrival.
A review of recent reports showed this same individual, 28-year-old James E. O’Brien II, had been suspected of shooting at/near other people in the area with a long gun.
Based on this information, additional resources were requested through the Washburn County Sheriff’s Office, the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office, and the Wisconsin State Patrol. Both the drone and the tactical robot were utilized.
O’Brien was taken into custody without additional incident. Charges have been referred to the Burnett County District Attorney’s Office.
