Man Charged With OWI 9 Following Traffic Stop In Polk County

POLK COUNTY -- A criminal complaint has been filed in Polk County Circuit Court against Jeffrey Cormican of Hammond, WI, after a Polk County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic stop on Cormican’s vehicle on March 18, 2020.

After allegedly observing erratic driving, a Polk County Sheriff’s Deputy stopped a vehicle on March 18, 2020. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Jeffrety Cormican. According to a probable cause report from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office Cormican admitted to drinking two beers earlier in the day.

The Deputy smelled an odor of intoxicants on Cormican and requested that Cormican take field sobriety testing to determine if he was safe to drive. During the field sobriety tests, the Deputy observed several clues of intoxication.

Cormican’s preliminary breath test result was .0159 according to the probable cause report and he was taken into custody for operating while intoxicated.

Online circuit court records show that at a hearing on March 19, 2020, the Court placed Cormican on a $10,000 cash bail bond. Cormican has been charged with Class F Felony OWI 9, and Misdemeanor Operating While Revoked.

Pursuant to the direction of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in Supreme Court Rule 20:3.6, Trial Publicly, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
