POLK COUNTY -- The Court has sentenced Christopher Platzer for convictions from a double fatal alcohol-related crash incident that occurred in Polk County in July 2020.

The fatal crash involved two GMC pickup trucks that collided nearly head-on. A man and a woman, identified as Scott L. Brust, and Lisa M. Swanson of rural Cushing, WI, succumbed to injuries sustained during the crash and passed away at the crash scene.

The man inside the other truck was identified as Christopher Platzer. He was later charged with 2 counts of Class G Felony Homicide by Negligent Operation/Vehicle and 2 counts of Class D Felony Homicide by Intoxicated Use of Vehicle.

Online circuit court records show that a jury trial was scheduled for March 2022 for Platzer’s criminal case, however, Platzer instead entered pleas of guilty to both of his charges of Class D Felony Homicide by Intoxicated Use of Vehicle at a hearing in March 2022.

Platzer was sentenced on his convictions at a recent hearing in Polk County Circuit Court and the Hon. Jeffery Anderson ordered him to serve 14 years of confinement in state prison (7 years for each conviction) followed by 10 years of extended supervision (5 years for each conviction).

Judge Anderson ordered Platzer to pay nearly $8,000 in restitution and conditions of supervision will require Platzer to maintain absolute sobriety, complete an alcohol and other drug assessment, and complete any recommended trauma therapy. Online circuit court records show that Platzer has paid nearly $10,000 in court costs, fees, and assessments and that he also received credit for 130 days already served in county jail.
