Man Sentenced on Felony OWI Conviction in Washburn County

A Rice Lake man received a sentence of 3 years probation on his conviction for operating while intoxicated, 6th offense, a Class H Felony.

According to public records obtained and reviewed by DrydenWire.com, Daniel Mikkelsen of Rice Lake, WI, was charged with Operating While Intoxicated, 6th offense in May of 2016 following a traffic stop by a Washburn County Sheriff's Office deputy. According to the criminal complaint, Mikkelsen was traveling southbound on Wisconsin State Highway 63 and the deputy stopped the vehicle because it was exhibiting erratic driving behavior. The deputy's report was referred to the Washburn County Sheriff's Office and charges were filed.

Mikkelsen plead guilty to the charge of Operating While Intoxicated, 6th offense on November 2, 2016. He received a sentence of 3 years of probation under the supervision of the Wisconsin Department of Corrections, Probation and Parole on January 9, 2017. Mikkelsen must serve 1 year in jail, although the court allowed that he may complete that year on electronic monitor.

The maximum sentence for a 6th offense conviction for Operating While Intoxicated is confinement in prison for 6 years.
