Man Who Was 'Tased' After Threatening Rice Lake Officer Officially Charged

News Release -- On Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at approximately 2:18 AM, the Rice Lake Police Department was dispatched to The Microtel Inn and Suites, 2771 Decker Drive, for a disorderly guest.

Upon arrival, the first officer made contact with the subject later identified as, Scott D Miller, 61 of Cameron, who charged the officer with a luggage cart, striking the officer in the leg. Miller threatened he was going to kill the officer.

After the officer issued a verbal warning that he was going to tase him and received no compliance, the officer deployed his taser with the taser probes striking the area of Miller’s chest. Miller subsequently pulled the taser wires out and continued to resist. Another officer then deployed his taser and officers were able to take him into custody. He was transported to a medical facility for medical clearance prior to being transported to the Barron County Jail.

The Microtel Inn and Suites Clerk received a cut to her hand and The Microtel Inn and Suites sustained over $3100 of damage due to the incident in the Lobby. No officers were injured.

Yesterday, Miller had his initial appearance in Barron County Circuit Court for the charges of Disorderly Conduct, Criminal Damage to Property, and Resisting/Obstructing an Officer.
