BARRON, WI -- A sentencing hearing is scheduled in Barron County Circuit Court for a Rice Lake, WI man who was charged criminally following an undercover sex sting.

On February 19, 2021, a criminal complaint was filed against Kevin Blomberg, of Rice Lake, WI, after he was arrested in the culmination of an undercover sex sting conducted by the Rice Lake Police Department.

The criminal complaint filed against Blomberg states that an undercover officer operating an online profile made contact with Blomberg online in February 2021.

Blomberg engaged in conversation with the undercover officer and asked how old they were. The undercover officer told Blomberg they were 15 years old.

A lengthy messaging conversation ensued, during which Blomberg asked “are you a virgin?” and told the undercover that they were going to “experience many things for the first time tonight”. The criminal complaint filed against Blomberg also states that Blomberg sent nude photos of himself to the undercover officer.

The criminal complaint filed against Blomberg contains numerous messages from the conversations between Blomberg and the undercover officer, however, they are too graphic to include in this post.

The conversation continued on February 17, 2021, with the undercover officer receiving a video message from Blomberg, showing himself completely nude. Multiple messages were exchanged during which Blomberg made arrangements to meet the undercover officer behind the Kwik Trip in Barron at 11:00 AM.

A short time later, Blomberg sent a message indicating that he had arrived. The criminal complaint goes on to state that law enforcement was on the scene conducting surveillance of the Kwik Trip store and observed a male matching Blomberg’s description.

The male was detained and identified as Blomberg. Officers searched Blomberg and found a used syringe that tested positive for methamphetamine. Officers also located two cell phones, one of which contained photos that had been sent by the undercover officer to Blomberg.

A micro SD card was retrieved from one of the cellular devices found on Blomberg at the time of his arrest, and Officers located over two dozen photos of a prepubescent juvenile female either partially nude or completely nude and posed in sexual positions.

A criminal complaint was filed charging Blomberg with Class C Felony Attempt Sexual Assault of Child Under 16 Years of Age; Class D Felony Child Enticement; Class C Felony Use of a Computer To Facilitate a Child Sex Crime; two counts of Class D Felony Possession of Child Pornography; Class I Felony Possession of Methamphetamine; and two counts of Class H Felony Bail Jumping.

Online circuit court records also show that Blomberg is charged in a separate Barron County Circuit Court case with two counts of Class D Felony Possession of Child Pornography from a violation date of January 17, 2020.

Blomberg is also charged in two additional Barron County Circuit Court cases with multiple counts of Class H Felony Forgery; Class H Felony Bail Jumping; and Misdemeanor Theft.

A a hearing in June 2021, Blomberg entered pleas of Guilty to his charges of Class C Felony Use of a Computer To Facilitate a Child Sex Crime; two counts of Class D Felony Possession of Child Pornography; and two counts of Class H Felony Forgery. The remaining charges against Blomberg were dismissed but read in.

The Barron County Jail Inmate Roster indicates that Blomberg has remained in custody since he was arrested in February 2021. Blomberg is scheduled to be sentenced on his charges on September 2, 2021.
