2017 Good Food Awards Winner
Press Release - Spooner, Wi—Mayana Chocolate is honored and thrilled to announced today that they are the recipient of the 2017 Good Food Award in Confections for their Space Bar. The Space Bar features vanilla-bean nougat, toasted almonds, fleur de sel caramel and our 66% custom blend of dark chocolate. Mayana Chocolate joins 291 finalists from across the country, the winners of the Good Food Award represent the forefront of American craft food. Each winner will be identified with the Good Food Award Seal which guarantees a high quality, delicious product committed to environmentally sound business practices and social good within their community.
About The Good Food Awards: The Good Food Awards celebrate the kind of food we all want to eat: tasty, authentic and responsibly produced. We grant awards to outstanding American food producers and the farmers who provide their ingredients. We host an annual Awards Ceremony and Marketplace in San Francisco to honor the Good Food Award recipients who push their industries towards craftsmanship and sustainability while enhancing our agricultural landscape and building strong communities.
In its seventh year, Good Food Awards will be given to winners in 14 categories: beer, cider, charcuterie, cheese, chocolate, coffee, confections, honey, pantry, pickles, preserves, spirits, oil and our newest category, preserved fish. All Finalists rose to the top in a blind tasting of the 2,059 entries from nearly every state and passed a rigorous vetting to confirm they met specific Good Food Awards standards around environmentally sound agriculture practices, good animal husbandry, sourcing transparency and responsible relationships throughout the supply chain. In Conjunction with the Good Food Awards Mayana Chocolate launched their new line of art deco inspired packaging. Each candy bar is now housed in a sleek dark brown box with a corresponding color and gold foil elegantly crisscrossing the box.
"The packaging is a nod to the Art Deco era. It is timeless and elegant. The shimmer on the metallic gold catches the eye and makes it a great gift. The bold colors make it feel modern and playful. It was an honor working with the graduate students at Columbia College in Chicago. It brought me back to my days as an Interior Architecture student at UW-Stevens Point. Perhaps that's why we choose to expand on this particular design. The architectural element was just too alluring to pass up." said Tamara Herskovic co owner of Mayana Chocolate.
