Melanie Kuula Acquitted Of Homicide Charges In Barron County Stabbing Case

BARRON COUNTY -- A jury has found Melanie Kuula Not Guilty of homicide charges that were filed against her following a stabbing incident that occurred in Almena, WI in August 2019.

A press release from the Turtle Lake Police Department on August 11, 2019, stated that a female, later identified as Melanie Kuula, had been identified as a suspect and taken into custody following the discovery of a deceased male in Almena, WI.

DrydenWire reported on August 14, 2019, that Kuula was charged with Class B Felony 2nd Degree Intentional Homicide.

Online circuit court records show that a 5-day jury trial regarding the homicide charges began on February 15, 2021, in Barron County Circuit Court.

After hearing from numerous witnesses including law enforcement and experts from the Wisconsin State Crime Lab, jurors went into deliberations shortly after noon on February 19, 2021, according to online court records.

Just before 4:30p, the jury returned with a verdict of Not Guilty of the charge of 2nd Degree Intentional Homicide. The Court entered a judgment of acquittal and dismissed Kuula’s bond.
