Minnesota Residents Killed In Burnett County Crash, Alcohol Believed Involved

BURNETT COUNTY (DrydenWire) - A single-vehicle crash claimed the lives of two people early Saturday morning, August 31, 2024, in Oakland Township, according to a press release from the Burnett County Sheriff's Office.

On Saturday, August 31st, 2024, at 2:01a, Burnett County Dispatch received a call from OnStar, reporting a vehicle crash near 28624 E. Bass Lake Rd in Oakland Township. Deputies arrived on the scene a short time later and located a single-vehicle crash with three occupants.

The driver and front passenger were pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver was identified as Layne W. Leitner, 25 years old, of Bloomington, MN, and the front passenger was identified as Kyle R. Orloske, 34 years old, of White Bear Lake, MN.

A third occupant of the vehicle was trapped and later extricated. The surviving passenger was transported via Air Care to a hospital.

The Wisconsin State Patrol was requested for a crash reconstruction.

Initial reports indicate that the vehicle traveled approximately 120 feet off the road before striking a tree.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash.

This case is still under investigation.
