Trump’s $1K Investment Accounts Roll Out For Eligible Newborns

The Trump administration on Saturday launched its newborn investment program, called “Trump Accounts,” opening the federal savings accounts for millions of children in line with America’s 250th anniversary.

Trump Accounts are available to anyone with a Social Security number under the age of 18. Qualifying children born between Jan 1, 2025, and Dec. 31, 2028, are also given a one-time deposit of $1,000 if enrolled in the program.

Dr. Debra Houry, the former chief medical officer at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), decried the direction of the agency under Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

“I think the secretary has caused a lot of irreparable harm, and when you look at many of the polls out there, the trust in public health, specifically CDC, has decreased dramatically, over 20 points in many polls,” Houry told host Margaret Brennan in an interview that aired Sunday on CBS News’s “Face the Nation.”

Sean Duffy’s Son-In-Law Divides Trump-backing Republicans In A Wisconsin Congressional Race

Michael Alfonso, the 26-year-old son-in-law of U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, has an answer for people who say he doesn’t have the experience necessary to join Congress as its youngest member.

He points to George Washington and Thomas Jefferson.

“They were 26 when they were first elected to public office,” said Alfonso, a Republican.

Alfonso is trying to ride support from his father-in-law to win his old House seat in rural northern Wisconsin. Duffy has repeatedly jetted back to the district to campaign and raise money for Alfonso, and he’s tapped $1 million from his old congressional account to support Alfonso’s candidacy.

Beloved Ohio High School Counselor Drowns At Wisconsin State Park

A beloved high school counselor in Ohio drowned in the water off Peninsula State Park in Wisconsin, authorities said.

In a joint press release posted to Facebook, the Gibraltar Police Department and Door County Sheriff's Office in Wisconsin said that authorities learned of an unresponsive man in Nicolet Bay at Peninsula State Park in the Town of Gibraltar on July 1 at around 3:30 p.m.

Candidate Tests Socialist Label In Wisconsin’s Governor Race

Jeff Hanneman was infuriated to learn about a proposal this spring to build a 220-acre data center on the site of a shuttered paper mill near his house in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin.

Worried that the project would pollute the tranquil waters of the nearby Wisconsin River, Hanneman, 43, planted a “No Data Center” sign in his yard. And although he’s a Republican who voted for President Donald Trump, he decided to support a democratic socialist who has called for a pause in data center construction and is running for governor.

Evers, Other Democratic Governors Press Us Postal Service To Withdraw Proposed Rule On Ballot Delivery

A group of Democratic governors asked the U.S. Postal Service on July 2 to withdraw its proposed rule seeking to implement an executive order from President Donald Trump to create a federal list of eligible voters and potentially limit who can receive a ballot in the mail.

The president signed the order in March. It directs U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and the Social Security Administration to create a “citizenship list” for each state and the Postal Service to limit mailed ballots to those on the lists.

Wisconsin Public School Managers Paint Flat School Funding As Loss

Wisconsin’s Department of Public Instruction is leaving a major piece out of its latest report on school funding in the state.

DPI on Wednesday released the General State Aid estimates for the next school year. And DPI made a point to say many schools in the state will lose money from Madison.

"With no increase in the state’s general school aid appropriation included in the 2025-27 biennial budget, school districts will continue to operate without additional state general aid in the next fiscal year. " DPI wrote. "Based on the estimate released today, 59.9% of Wisconsin’s school districts (252 districts) are projected to receive less general aid for 2026-27 than they did in 2025-26, while 38% (160 districts) are estimated to receive more and nine districts are expected to see no change."
